SPRING...
Spring is on it's way.....there are buds on some of the trees, rose bushes and the bulbs are popping out of the ground!! I have seen 3 sets of robins fly into, gorge themselves and leave, heading north for their summer homes.
Now is the time to take inventory of your home. If you do not plan to sell, you still need to look at your home and develop a 2011 house plan. Does that roof need repair or replacing? Is there some structural elements that need to be repaired, replaced or redesigned? Does your home need paint or a pressure wash? Remember do not start before the " pollen season" ends! Your home is your largest investment and you should reinvest something every year to maintain the value in your home. Every element of a home has a life. The roofing shingles can be 20 years or 30 years but will be less if the roof is covered in leaves and pinestraw constantly. A dripping faucet costs you everyday- and more if it is the hot water! Make a list, watch for sales and replace/repair what you can do yourself or hire someone to do it. That leaking roof will eventually get inside the home and the costs of repair increase with the shingles, tar paper, plywood, lumber, sheetrock, etc.
The leaking pipe under your sink will, with time, cause rot through the cabinet bottoms and beyond. Don't wait to repair or replace- it is always less expensive to tackle those small jobs than it is to avoid giving your home the same tlc it gives you every summer and winter.
Add some plants to your landscape this year- pansies and decorative cabbage in the winter, then annuals when all frost possibilities have passed. Again make a plan- some annuals to color up a landscape and perenials for permanence. Maintaining a home regularly will help your pocketbook and if you decide to sell your home- you will be ready.
If your home is for sale- remember: a window cleaner and towel are the fastest way to make minor dirt and fingerprints disappear! And takes minimal time to accomplish.
I use it in my house when we go on vacation, to remove our prints from all elements of my home as well as swiffer the floors in the chance that a criminal decides to visit. It makes it easier for the possible crime scene personnel to attempt to lift prints.
